According to statistics released in 2016, The rate of crime in South Africa has decreased between 2015 and 2016, with 2.1 million crimes reported in the 12 months.
Commenting on the progress the SAPS managed to make in the past 12 months, Minister of police Nkosinathi Nhleko urged South Africans to work with the police to fight crime and expose criminals.
“The rate of crime has decreased the most in places where mob justice is mostly used, sadly. The progress came as a result of the work both the community and the SAPS have done.We have however noticed that the rate of crime in Mpumalanga and Limpopo has increased. We advise communities in those areas to work hard to fight crime, do whatever you can. If you call the police and they do not respond, you know what to do.” said Nhleko.
“Deal with all criminals accordingly, but do not kill anyone. Call the cops whenever you can. Report cops who are involved in criminal activities. ” Nhleko concluded.
